Adding festive spirit to Aunt Bessie's brand packaging

With a successful partnership with Aunt Bessie’s as their creative agency, we were delighted to create seasonal packaging to support their latest new product launch.

The frozen brand famous for Roast Dinners, developed innovative new Star Yorkshires to offer a “gloriously festive” addition to Christmas dinners this year. Charlotte Vause, Brand Manager at Aunt Bessie’s says, “We know that our consumers have Roast Dinners for special meal occasions, so our team have worked hard to create these new, extra special, star-shaped Yorkshire Puddings with perfect crispiness in every bite whilst still offering, convenient, easy to prepare, and ready-in-5-minutes, Yorkshires.”

We were asked to create impactful packaging to support this innovative seasonal launch.

The design communicates that ‘ta da!’ moment of pride, which we know people feel when they serve a roast dinner for the people they care about most. We refreshed it for Christmas with a layer of modern festive illustrations.

The illustrations capture the festive season with a celebratory burst. The sound of laughter, the build of excitement or for some, a time of reflection, looking forward to a new year. Made up of familiar festive shapes, the background cleverly links to the shape of the product itself. The burst is purposely applied as a subtle blend into the background, to allow the puddings to be the real stars of the show.

We also wanted to make Aunt Bessie even more relatable to customers by allowing her to personally embrace the Christmas spirit this year, so we trimmed our much-loved iconic hero with a Christmas hat. We simplified the pack hierarchy and modernised Aunt Bessie herself back in 2018, so we felt the time was right to include a touch of additional fun for this festive launch.

Claire Hoe, Design Director explains ‘the photography style aligned with core products for brand consistency, ensuring the shape of the puddings were hero for differentiation. Carefully selected to reflect the reality that each star has its own individual shape. The pudding angles make them feel like they were ready to subtly burst off the plate in a celebratory style. This perfectly balanced the ta-da background elements.’

The Star-shaped Festive Yorkshires will be available in Asda, Iceland, Heron and Farmfoods stores from Mid- October and will sit alongside Aunt Bessie’s traditional Yorkshire Puddings this Christmas. The seasonal limited edition packs follow-on from the success of the heart-shaped Yorkshire Puddings promoted for Valentines Day and Mother’s Day.
